RIP Pica - The Wave’s Shop Cat

It’s with a heavy heart the we write the editorial this week. Yesterday, Pica, the Wave’s office cat, went to the Rainbow Bridge.

As many of you who frequent the Wave office are aware, we adopted Pica nearly 17 years ago.

Visitors to the Wave would always look forward to giving him a scratch behind the ears and kids would laugh as they saw he spent most of his time sprawled across someone’s desk.

When we adopted Pica, we weren’t looking to give a shelter cat a home. However, he snuggled his way into the hearts of the staff here at the Wave and his loss will be acutely felt.

Though he wasn’t the best mouser (he was actually afraid of mice) and it seemed he ate his body weight in cat treats monthly, he was the oldest of our Wave shop cats and a valued member of our staff.

We’d swear that a little “Pica time” would fix even the worse case of writer’s block or calm frazzled deadline nerves.

Locally, hundreds of cats and dogs are sitting in shelters and in foster care, waiting for YOU to adopt them. They need you, and you may not realize it, but you need them.

Contact our local shelter or Paws for Life for more information on adoptable animals - www.pflu.org or 435-640-4752.
