Editor: For the last three years our county assessor has been in office without an appraiser’s license. We as voting public have accepted Peggy McKenzie being in the elected position of county assessor for three years. On the basis that she passes her appraisal test by the end of the year 2013.
It is now 2014 and Peggy McKenzie has not been removed from office, and from my understanding is still being allowed to test into 2014 to keep her elected position. I think that as a community we should demand Peggy McKenzie should be removed from office and another person should be appointed that position until the next election.
After speaking with Jay Price this morning, he informed me that they will remove Peggy from office if her test results come back as not passed. Hope that those results are from a test taken in 2013, not 2014. If the test results are from a test taken in 2014, and Peggy McKenzie is allowed to keep her position, I feel that the council members are doing our county a disservice by not removing Peggy McKenzie from office immediately. According to Utah law in accordance with being a county assessor.
