The Maverick Man Games, an event that pushes the boundaries of sport to the limits of a Medieval Olympiad, to turn of the century State Fair carnival games, to a modern NFL combine, rolled into Heber last weekend.
The two-day event, a first for Wasatch County, gave athletes the opportunity to show off their athletic versatility by competing in contests such as Pig Wrestling, Obstacle Course and Spear Chucking from horseback.
The first-time Man Games in Heber might have come on as a surprise to locals. Not many were aware of the happening. It is still an event in it’s early stages of growth that hopes to gain popularity by returning annually.
Chantelle Rowley one of the organizers, said, “Oh yes—we loved it here at Wasatch! We feel pretty happy with the turnout and definitely love the facility. It was perfect. We hope to come back again, and do it in the spring.”
Besides just the contests themselves, there were vendors, a live DJ and giveaways in the parking lot and grounds throughout. Even the Maverick hot air balloon came to fly above to spot the location.
“We’re probably heading to Southern California next, but have a date in Atlanta in the works”, said Rochelle.
