Twenty-year-old Cody Whipple, 20, Midway, was critically injured Sunday evening when, according to witnesses, the car he was driving westbound on SR113 lost control and struck a late model SUV head on before slamming into concrete guardrails on the Midway Bridge.

The occupants of the other vehicle were treated at the scene and released.

Whipple had to be cut from the vehicle and was transported by ground ambulance to Heber Valley Medical Center for stabilization before being transferred via air ambulance to the University of Utah Medical Center.

A family friend says Whipple has undergone surgery to tread severe internal injuries sustained in the crash.
