George Fredrick Handel’s most successful and best-known oratorio, The Messiah, was first performed at a concert given for charitable purposes in Dublin, Ireland, on April 13, 1742. According to historical evidence, Handel composed the work for a chamber orchestra and chorus, and for musicians of modest talents. Perhaps the very nature of the composition is what enables and draws the musicians of Heber Valley to perform it annually as a sing-in event.
Performances of The Messiah, with choir, orchestra, and soloists, will be Saturday and Sunday, December 9 and 10, 7 pm at the Heber Ninth Ward LDS Chapel, 325 E 500 N, Heber City. Please join our community in this traditional musical event. Since the performance is a sing along, the audience will join in singing with the choir. Please bring your own musical score. The most common score is the G. Schirmer edition. It can be purchased at Lee Music in Heber City.
The choir and orchestra are composed of musicians who love to perform this oratorio each year. It has become an annual tradition. The musicians are hopeful that your Christmas celebration will be more complete because you participated in The Messiah.
